a5c7b9f00b A girl who is a famous singer in Brazil comes to New York to help clear her brother, who has been charged with arson and murder. Marquita Romero, a South American singer in New York, is striving to secure the release of her brother, Carlos, who has been framed on an arson charge through the conniving of the owner of a night club whose sideline racket is collecting insurance on arson fires he has created. She is aided by Steven Ward, who with the help of an investigator for the insurance company, plans to get the evidence on the racketeer by having Marquita getting a joba singer in the nightclub. She secures the needed proof in the form of a stamp collection in the gangster&#39;s safe that the insurance had been collected on. Meanwhile, the crook&#39;s jealous girlfriend has discovered Maquita&#39;s plan and has blown the whistle on her. If you are willing to overlook a few boo-boos (e.g. the script never explains why the lovely Movita speaks Spanish and how come she has such a huge radio following in Brazil even though she sings Spanish songs in Spanish and not Brazilian songs in Portuguese), this is an entertaining &quot;B&quot;, cleverly scripted by Milton Raison and John T. Neville, and breezily directed by Lambert Hillyer who builds up the suspense very nicely indeed. The villains, Kay Linaker and Clay Clement, have a certain amount of appeal, but the good guys and lasses are more breezily attractive, and, needless to say, it&#39;s these good guys and lasses led by Movita and Warren Hull who eventually save the day. Available on a very good Alpha DVD. Marquita Romero is about to have her big breaka singer in a show in Rio when she receives word that her brother has been locked up for murder. Dropping everything she flies off to New York where she finds that her brother has been accused of setting a fire that has killed a night watchman. Staying in New York with her sister in law Marquita attempts to find out what really happened and free her brother. When her boyfriend Steve, a reporter, arrives from Rio he sets about digging into the facts of the case and how the fire may have been part of a string of arson for profit.<br/><br/>Completely unremarkable and workman like this movie moves through its plot in a by the numbers sort of way. Once the plot is set in motion you can pretty much figure out how its all going to unravel. Sometimes you don&#39;t mind that, sometimes you do, here you don&#39;t mind, but you really won&#39;t care either. If you were half way into the movie and felt the urge to go to bed you probably wouldn&#39;t care that you didn&#39;t see how it all came out. Its not bad, and if you do choose/are forced to watch this you will enjoy it, but its not something that you&#39;d really want to picka way to spend an hour of your time.<br/><br/>4 out of 10 since it is an okay story, its never engaging enough to get you to care.
